2017 is finally upon us and I want to encourage you to take this year as your year of 'NO MORE EXCUSES'. Repeat after me, NO MORE EXCUSES!

Before I start, let me get this off my chest. Decreeing and declaring that 2017 is going to be your year, or even 'new year, new me' is absolutely fine and please do not let anyone tell you otherwise. A New Year is the perfect opportunity to switch things up and make the chapter ahead better than the one ending. If that is going to be your motto, fly your flag high and proud. Change the things that you need to change and make this year YOUR year - back your talk up with action!

I hope that this post will trigger some thought, discussion with self and most importantly, encouragement to make the most of this year.

Be honest with yourself: Sit down and evaluate yourself and 2016.
Almost every month, without fail, I would see on social media, something along the lines of "2016 is cancelled, 20L6" etc. Now, do not shoot me, I do understand that many of these things were said in a light-hearted manner but the general consensus appears to be that 2016 was not a great year for many. Everything in life boils down to choice. Ask yourself: what choices did I make in 2016? What have been the effects of said choices? What can I do better? How will I do better? Self-evaluation is key! I will expand on this in a later post but what I will say for now is that it is only a dog that goes back and lick its own vomit (Proverbs 26:11). It is only a fool that goes back and makes the same mistake twice, a third, fourth time, after it has made a mess of your life. Don't be a fool, yo.

Take responsibility for your actions. More often than not, we play 'pass the buck', looking for someone else to put the blame on, a scapegoat of some sort. 2017, this has to stop. If you make a mistake, take your L, own your L and figure out how you are going to make that loss a win! It is almost inevitable that bad choices will be made, however, it is important to own your actions and learn from your mistakes. I have found that this is a major key (word to DJ Khaled)!

Plan, plan, plan
As cliche as it sounds, there is something about writing things down. Being a to-do list fanatic, I personally cannot do anything without a to-do list. At the start of 2016, I decided to do things a little differently and create a vision board. On this board, I stuck on pictures of my friends and family, graduation ceremonies, the body goals I was working towards, you name it, I had a picture for it. I will not sit here and say that these pictures were the sole cause of me achieving all of my goals for 2017, however, having a visual reminder of my goals and seeing that board everyday reminded me of what I was leaving my house everyday for.

Surround yourself with positivity
What you hear, translates into what you do. I read an article a few weeks ago that said you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with (Jim Rohn). Surround yourself with like-minded individuals - people that want you to win, people that are imparting wisdom, knowledge and positivity in your life.

So 2017, be honest with yourself, identify and map your vision and surround yourself with positivity. It goes without saying that there will be trying times along the way but do not allow them to stop you from pushing towards achieving your goals.

2017. No. More. Excuses.
